"It's a new car that you drive tonight…there's an American man inside," sings The Border Surrender's world-weary singer, Keith Austin. The track is called 'American Car' - the opener from their recently released EP, Blood in the Snow. And if it wasn’t already abundantly obvious, this North London quartet really isn't singing about Highgate Hill or Jack the Ripper. This is the American Dream, or rather, a dream about that very dream, a reimagining. The same that Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young sang about before them. Entirely focussed on DIY ethics, the band spent most of 2009 learning how to write songs and collecting equipment for their DIY studio. Today, they're producing songs that long for the open highway; tunes that rebel, quietly over dirt tracks and up on the breeze licking the back of your neck and ear drums with steely guitars and raw, honest delivery.
